This information was given by Joseph Edlow, Director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
In a post published on X on Friday, Edlow said the pause will continue "until we can ensure that every foreigner has completed the highest level of vetting and testing."
The announcement comes hours after President Donald Trump announced that he would "permanently suspend" immigration to the United States from all "third world countries."

USCIS officials, an agency of the US Department of Homeland Security, have been instructed not to approve, deny, or close any asylum applications. According to the CBS News report, officials can continue working on the application process, but must stop when they reach the decision-making stage.
The directive states: "Once you reach a decision point, stop and hold."
